Ambient IoT and Zero Energy Communications

Zero Energy Communications

Current possibilities, examples as well as theoretical and practical limits for the realization of autonomous wireless sensors, sustainably supplied from energy harvesting sources. Different application scenarios as well as different radio systems such as LPWAN, WLAN, Bluetooth and RFID will be considered and the connection to current standardization activities in 3GPP and IEEE will be established.
Under the keywords "Zero Energy Communications" or "Ambient IoT", the supply of IoT devices from energy harvesting sources is also considered in standardization at 3GPP and IEEE, for example, with regard to protocol optimization. In this context, the supply from radio field energy by means of radio frequency energy harvesting, similar to RFID transponders, is also discussed, or typical auto-ID scenarios are implemented with active radio systems. In the lecture, different variants and implementation concepts will be presented and the advantages and disadvantages discussed.
